Post Keeping It Simple...
Apologies if this should be somewhere else..

What follows is a PERSONAL opinion. Wink

A very great deal of modifications are being requested, but somewhere in all this I have a concern. I use Snarfer because it is:

1) Fast
2) Simple

So, I am worried that in the desire to please everybody all of the time, these simple virtues may be lost.

As far as I'm concerned Snarfer is almost perfect already. Almost. When I install a new version, my first act is to uninstall most of the plugins. All I need is RSS - no searches, no ratings, no emails. My only concession is the import/export - and I suspect I could get round that if necessary by copying a couple of files.

I don't need skins, I don't need fancy message styles, and most of all I don't need a web browser. There are some really good ones already in existence, Firefox for example.

So what am I saying? Maybe that it would be nice if there were to be a Snarfer "Lite" at some point, once Snarfer has gone the natural way of all PC clients and morphed into a combination Web browser, email client, personal productivity advisor and fridge magnet Smile.

Once again, this was a totally personal opinion.

Oh, btw I do have one feature request  Laughing

It's been mentioned before, but I'd like to add my name to it - can we have a Portable version please.

Utterly agree with you! The beauty of Snarfer is that it is fast and simple.

Yet simplicity should not make it a dumb, good-for-nothing application. I also removed a few of the plugins, I also don't need the ratings, searches and emails, but I do need to be able to set refresh interval at the folder level. This is a basic functionality of a RSS reader. I also understand those who need ratings, searches and emails. We just need to find the balance.

I the balance could be reached if:
- it is the official philosophy of the program (I think it actually is, just not formulated exactly this way) that the default settings keep the interface simple and additional functionalities do exist but are optional (more or less already achieved with the plugin architecture);
- a requirement is put for posting in this section: before suggesting a new feature, the user would be asked mark it either as a feature for the default settings or for the optional components; in case of the former (default components) s/he would be asked to explain in one-two sentences why this request cannot be regarded as bloatware.

I too agree in total.  One of the "selling" features was the folders and the second was a simple  rss reader (period).  I don't need any of the added features either and I too would like to see a lite version if at all possible.  I understand it is the nature of the beast to want to please many but I believe there are many who would opt for the original features, or a lite version
